Over the last two weeks we have been learning lots about Pirates, arrr! The children have loved dressing up as pirates and even princesses and role playing searching for buried treasure. Their enthusiasm was perfect for writing about pirates and the children have really excelled in their writing during the last two weeks.
Welcome back everyone. We hope you enjoyed your Easter holidays which now seem like a distant memory. The children have returned to Old Mill refreshed and looking forward to their last term in Foundation Stage. We started a new topic about shopping and we turned the end area of the classroom into a supermarket and the outdoor classroom into a garden centre.
The last two weeks we have been very busy preparing for Easter and now it is upon us we can’t quite believe how quickly the time has passed. The children have made lots of Easter decorations, a card, a yummy chocolate Easter Nest and writing about Easter in class.
We finished our work on Pets and we ended the topic off with a visit from Colin the Tortoise. Mrs. Brindley brought in her pet tortoise to show the children. They absolutely adored him and they were very keen to find out everything they could about looking after him. We even got to watch Colin walk around the hall. Thank you Mrs. Brindley for bringing him in.
We continued learning about pets this week and we had a special visit from our local vet Mrs McGraine. She explained her job as a vet and brought in lots of things she uses in her surgery. The children really enjoyed using them and learned a lot about how we take care of our pets and what a vet does. Thank you Mrs McGraine for coming in to see us.
This week we have been finding out about pets. Lots of us have a pet at home and we discovered that the most popular pets are dogs, cats and rabbits. We have turned the end area of our classroom into a Vet’s surgery and the children have been dressing up as a vet and looking after the toy animals too.
“Nee How” that’s Hello written phonetically in Chinese. This week we have been looking at the Chinese New Year and learning about China. We found out about the Chinese Zodiac and its twelve animals. This year is the Year of the Monkey and every year represents a different animal from the zodiac.
This has been a very ‘sticky’ week. We have really enjoyed reading Stickman by Julia Donaldson and retelling the story in our own words in role play activities.. The children have written stories about Stickman, their own sentences describing what he can do and have made their own stickmen.
